Don’t let Lane Kiffin’s firing reassure you, that dark powers run deep became apparent 13 years ago when Notre Dame hosted USC and our band hall was ransacked by the Trojan marching band. If USC’s band would stoop so low as to disrespect fellow band nerds, there really is no hope for the school.

Therefore if we do nothing else this season, we must beat USC. We’ll watch it happen this weekend in St. Dan K’s made-for-football-parties living room.

IMPORTANT: If you plan to attend, please RSVP to Kyle by Friday AM so Dan knows how many Fighting Irish to expect.

Mail or call with any questions. Go Irish, beat Trojans!

P.S. A member of our extended NDCOJ family, John Stanton, is making a name for himself in the Japan corporate football league. Check him out in this article.

Sep. 08 ND @ Michigan

START 09:00 a.m.
PLACE: New Sanno Hotel (Fair Winds Lounge 1F) | Confirmed!
NETWORK: ABC/ESPN

Because the New Sanno Hotel is a U.S. military hotel, security is tight and it’s absolutely necessary to RSVP in advance. (Please RSVP to Kyle by Wednesday evening). It’s also necessary to bring your passport, gaijin residence card or, if you are a Japanese national, a Japanese ID. If you’re not on the (pre-cleared) list or you don’t have proper ID, they might turn you away.

Also note there are certain restrictions on non-American citizens/non-Japanese attendees. Please email Kyle if this describes you or your guests.

  • The location of the game watch is the Fair Winds Lounge which is on the first floor of the New Sanno Hotel. The Fair Winds Lounge begins providing food and drink services at 11:00 a.m.
  • The Emporium Restaurant is also on the first floor of the New Sanno Hotel. The Emporium Restaurant is open on Sundays from 06:00 a.m. – 10:30 a.m., and their peak hours of breakfast service are 09:00 a.m. – 10:30 a.m.
  • As a courtesy to the Club, the Emporium Restaurant frequently provides food service in the Fair Winds Lounge during our early morning gamewatches.
  • However, because this week’s gamewatch begins during the Emporium Restaurant’s peak hours, it is unlikely that they will be able to provide food and drink services in the Fair Winds Lounge this week.

Key Takeaway: Table service is provided on a when-possible, military-first basis. Please do not bother the staff! If you want to eat breakfast at the New Sanno Hotel, your best tactic for the ND-MI gamewatch is to arrive before the gamewatch begins and eat in the Emporium Restaurant. Alternatively, if you are interested in an early lunch or brunch, Fair Winds Lounge staff will begin offering table service from the Fair Winds Lounge menu starting at 11:00 a.m.

Please be advised that, as always, any person under the age of 20 will have to vacate the Fair Winds Lounge at 11:00 a.m. and go to Hero’s, the New York-style deli on 2nd floor. (This is because the Fair Winds Lounge begins serving alcoholic drinks at 11:00 a.m. on Sunday).

The restaurant, located in Azabu Juban, has a capacity of 30 people. If we reach 30 people, this event will be fixed price at 5,000 JPY. If not, this event will revert to a standard “warikan” event where the final price is determined by what is ordered. So, please RSVP ASAP using this link http://notredameclubofjapan.doorkeeper.jp/events/3403 This Doorkeeper registration service is a new registration system. It was created by Tokyo-based entrepreneurs. It is free. It is social. When you register, other members will be able to see your intention to attend this event. (We think… this is the first time we are trying this service). (Note: You will receive an email after you register telling you to “Please show it [the email ticket] at the door for fast check-in.” Actually, you do not need to bring the ticket as we will print out a list of the attendees and bring it to the event.)

12/24/2012 Christmas Eve Mass

Historically, not many Club members are in Tokyo for the Christmas holidays. However, for those members who are going to be in Tokyo and are wondering which Mass to attend, the Club humbly suggests the Christmas Eve Mass at the Franciscan Chapel Center in Roppongi. The logistics for this event are quite loose… just look for fellow Domers (wear some of your formal ND gear to make yourself visible!) and try to sit and enjoy the Christmas spirit together. And, if you and your loved ones plan on going out for dinner afterward, please make your reservations ASAP as Christmas Eve dinners are very popular in Tokyo.

UPDATE: The New Sanno Hotel has just advised us that if you want to have breakfast at the New Sanno, you will have to order breakfast in the Emporium Restaurant at the New Sanno and not in the Fair Winds Lounge (the site of the gamewatch).

The reason for this is because the New Sanno already has 590 reservations for their Halloween Sunday brunch and will not have staff available to take breakfast orders in the Fair Winds Lounge.

So, if you want to have breakfast at the New Sanno please plan to come early and have breakfast in the Emporium Restaurant before the 9 am kick-off. The Emporium Restaurant opens at 7:00 a.m.

The Fair Winds Lounge will offer table service from their regular bar menu when the bar and Fair Winds Lounge table service commences at 11 am.

The New Sanno Hotel regrets any inconvenience, but has to assign its table service personnel to the Emporium Restaurant and Ball Room tomorrow b/c of the large number of reservations for the Halloween Brunch.

 EVENT SUMMARY

THE FIGHTING IRISH ADMINISTRATION INVADE TOKYO: JULY 2-4, 2011

-Jim Moynihan

In July 2009 the UND Legends football team came to Tokyo and the Tokyo Dome to play football to mark the 75th anniversary of the foundation of the Japan American Football Association.

In 2010 the UND Lacrosse team brought their game to the Tokyo metropolitan area for a week of fun and victories over their Japan counterparts.

In 2011 we had UND President Father John JENKINS, UND Assistant Provost Nick ENTRIKIN, UND International Advancement Director Dave MORRISSEY,  Professor Jonathan NOBLE, Asia Programs Development Officer, and Frances SHAVERS, Chief of Staff for UND President Father John JENKINS, all visit Hong Kong, Beijing and Tokyo in furtherance of the development of UND related study, exchange and development programs in these countries and regions.

UND President Father John JENKINS celebrated Mass for the Tokyo Notre Dame Club members and UND administrators at the Franciscan Chapel Center (FCC) in Tokyo on Sunday, July 3, 2011.   Franciscan Friar Father Bede FITZPATRICK, UND ’43 and a survivor of the Battle of Iwo Jima, concelebrated the Mass with Father John JENKINS.  We said a special prayer during the liturgy in memory of former UND President Father William Corby, a two time president of UND, in memory of his blessing and charge to the Irish Brigade at the Battle of Gettysburg on July 1-3, 1863, on the 148th anniversary of that event.

Following the Mass we had a delightful brunch at the Ritz Carlton Hotel.  Father Jenkins and the UND administrators were most accessible and engaging in their visits with all of the Tokyo UND Club members who attended the brunch.  UND administrators had meetings with various friends of UND while in Tokyo and also met with Keio University counterparts on Monday, July 4, 2011 in furtherance of future possible educational programs involving both universities.

Many thanks to all of the UND Tokyo Club members who participated and made these UND related events in Tokyo so successful.  Many thanks in particular to UND Club member Dan KERRIGAN who did most of the logistical arrangements and met with the UND contingent upon their arrival at Tokyo Narita on July 2, 2011.
